The Village Cricket and Rounders Matches

Each year the village organises rounders and cricket matches. These take place on the first Sunday in September at the Recreation Ground, rounders at 12.30pm and cricket at 2.30pm

The cricket match is played between Berrick Prior, one of the four settlements, and The Rest of the World. What this means in practice is that Berrick Prior, with around 20 households, takes on the other three settlements. The Rest of the World traditionally bat first and a tea made by the Captains’ wives is served during the afternoon.

The whole day is wound up with the presentation of “the man of the match” award. The”man of the match” trophy was presented by Janis Roberts in memory of her husband,Peter, who was a keen supporter of all village activities, and, in particular, of the cricket match.
